Featuring Rum & Chocolate, Beer & Cheese, Tequila Night.

So the past couple of months have been Apotheca present some great taster and sample nights including “craft beer & cheese”, “excellia tequila cocktails and food pairings” and “Appletons rum and chocolate”. If you haven’t heard about them, where have you been ? tickets for each event where very reasonably priced, with samples, cocktails, nibbles and food pairings tailored for each event. There will be more of these events to come in the new year so watch this space

“Craft beer & cheese” took us through the wonderful world of Belgian craft beers with a sample of each fine brew matched with different cheese to compliment each other. we tasted Vedett with brie, Liefmans fruit beer with goats cheese and La Chouffe with a super strong blue cheese to name a few. The evening was finished off with Dough Pizza Kitchens”cheese board pizza” and more Belgian beer. Who knew craft beer could be just as complex with cheese as a fine wine !

“Excellia Tequila Night” took a more formal setting in the downstairs resteraunt at Dough Pizza Kitchen. Each expression of Excellia tequila was sampled neat then a cocktail and matching course, lovingly created by the dough chefs. The first course was a citrus salad served with apothecas first signature cocktail “tequila flavoured kisses”; excellia blanco tequila elderflower, grape and grapefruit juice. second course was seared sea bass with pak choi and cucumber stack served with “prickly heat” cocktail featuring excellia reposado, agave, chilli and prosecco. To finish we enjoyed a homemade chocolate brownie with competition winning cocktail “Old Excellence”; Excellia Anejo, congac, orange oil and chocolate bitters.

“Appleton Estate Rum and Chocolate” introduced us to the wonderland pairing of fine Jamaican rums with delicious handcrafted chocolates. We tasted Appleton Estate VX with orange infused dark chocolate, Appleton’s 8 year with dark Almond chocolate and Appleton 12 year with a rich, dark espresso chocolate. To top the night off we enjoyed our signature Appleton cocktail “Jerk & Twerk”; jerk seasoning, chilli, pineapple, orange and rum served with a delicious homemade rum infused chocolate brownie and chilli ice cream! we also tried Wray and Nephew and Koko Kanu. Bottles of all the amazing rums we tried where available to purchase and take away as part of the event.
